WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND AND QUALIFICATIONS FOR WRITING STUDENT CURRICULUM?

Writing Experience:  I was privileged to be a Student Life Youth Bible Study Writer for 4 years.  Since then, I have independently written 3 other sets of material for youth camps in Oklahoma and Massachusetts.
Student Ministry Experience:  I have been on youth summer camp staff for 4 years, have taught junior high Bible studies at various churches, served as Co-Youth Leader for a year on church staff, and had a full youth internship experience during seminary.
Education:  Oklahoma Baptist University (Major in Applied Ministry with a missions emphasis and a minor in business)
Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (Master of Arts in Christian Education with a student ministry focus)

HOW DO I KNOW YOU ARE GOING TO GET OUR MATERIALS DONE ON TIME AND DO WELL?

Three thoughts.  One, we don’t like to be late; we would much rather be early in delivering your set.  Two, “doing all to the glory of God” means the work will be done in a timely manner and done to the best of our ability.  Three, we want you to be happy!  If deadlines aren’t met or work is sloppy, then you aren’t happy.  If you aren’t happy, we aren’t happy and we don’t want to get to that point!  If you still have doubts, read the reviews.

WHAT IS THE WORKING PROCESS FOR CREATING CURRICULUM WE WILL BE HAPPY WITH?

After you receive a free Kaleido-Quote that includes all the pieces of curriculum you want and you decide you would like to have custom curriculum written for your group, we will begin walking through the first of four phases, outlined below.
Phase I:  In the Outline Phase, there will be some correspondence back and forth to establish a broad outline that covers what you need for each day you use the curriculum.  This outline will establish your overall theme (if you have one) as well as the focal passage for the main lessons each day.  Phase I will begin once your receive your quote and you decide you want to proceed.  The outline needs to be completed within two weeks and you will need to be available by phone and/or email for correspondence during this time.  Once the outline is complete, you will need to sign off on it as well a contract for the duration.  Along with these signed documents, 50% of your balance will be due.
Phase II:  The first main piece of your curriculum will be written and emailed to you.  You will then need to read through the material and provide feedback within five days on several points that may include, but are not limited to the following:  Do you like the track the lesson is taking?  Is the length good for your requested time span?  Is the depth of the material on target for your group?  Elements such as these will factor in to the whole set and so it is important for both sides to be on the same page at this time.  Please note, those who teach will always add their own personality and flare to any lesson and so the writing will not and cannot reflect that.  Those are not the types of changes that can be catered to.
Phase III:  Once you approve the first lesson the writing will continue.  When the half-way point of your material is reached (with the exception of a student booklet if one is requested), the files will be emailed to you.  You will need to again, read through and respond within five days letting us know whether or not you are pleased.  Once you approve these lessons, the remaining 50% of your balance will be due.  Please note, there are times writing gets to, for example, lesson 4 in a series and it is decided something placed in an earlier lesson should be moved to a later lesson now that the whole picture is developing.  So, even though the first half may be done and approved, it might be best to make a change as the set develops.  The whole set cannot be marked as final until it is developed to the very end.
Phase IV:  The remainder of your curriculum will be written and submitted to you by email.  If you have any questions or reasonable changes to be made, you must contact Kaleidoscope Curriculum within one week of when the final was emailed to you, otherwise the contract expires.  If any reasonable changes are requested, those will be made and submitted back to you within one more week, after which the contract expires.

HOW EARLY SHOULD I MAKE A CURRICULUM REQUEST

There is no such thing as too early!  Depending on the size of the request and how many others are in line will determine how much time is necessary to complete your curriculum.  Remember, summer camps and DNows are popular for wanting custom material.  So once you know what theme and/or passage you want, go ahead and submit your request.  Do not wait too late to inquire or slots will already be full. Early is good!

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR OUR CURRICULUM TO BE WRITTEN?

Since this is custom curriculum, there is no cut and dry answer to this question.  The length of time it takes depends on how many pieces of curriculum you need and what other projects are already in process.  Generally speaking, if you need a 4 or 5 day set of curriculum, the goal would be to get it done in 8 to 10 weeks, maximum.  The deadline for your set will be established in the contract and your promptness at giving feedback when needed will factor in to meeting or beating the deadline.

CAN WE REQUEST ADDITIONAL DAILY DEVOS FOR BEFORE AND/OR AFTER OUR EVENT?

Absolutely!  When you fill out your Kaleido-Quote, just include any extra devos you would like in the total number and then let us know how many you want on the front or back end of your event as that will make a difference on what is written.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LARGE AND SMALL GROUP SESSIONS IN CURRICULUM?

Large group sessions are written with an audience of more than 20 students in mind.  These sessions would include some rhetorical questions but would not include anything that involves personal interaction.  Small group sessions are geared toward a group of 20 students or less.  These lessons would include group discussion questions as well as illustrations that may require basic materials for visual demonstrations.  For small group samples, check out the curriculum tab.

DO YOU PRINT STUDENT BOOKLETS?

Student booklets can certainly be created to correspond with your custom material.  These booklets would give your students space to take notes, answer questions and provide some fill-in-the-blanks to help them stay with the lesson.  Some of the main Scripture passages for easy reference would also be included.  If you request student devotionals, they would be combined with the booklet. Printing can be done one of two ways.  The file can either be emailed to you and you can print them with your logo on the cover, or you could email us your logo and the booklets can be printed and shipped to you.  Time for this would need to be considered in your desired deadline.  Printing (based on number of pages) and shipping costs would be an add-on at the end and therefore not included in your quote.

HOW DO I GET A QUOTE?

Since this is custom curriculum built around the needs of your group, it is not possible to have a standard price list that will fit every group. Please submit the Kaleido-Quote with accurate information for a quote tailored just for you.

WHAT WILL BE THE FORMAT OF THE FINISHED PRODUCT?

All curriculum will be copyrighted and therefore emailed to you as a .pdf so that changes cannot be made; no exceptions.  The document will be in full page format.

WILL THE FINAL COST EVER BE MORE THAN WHAT I WAS QUOTED?

Maybe…but never without your prior knowledge and approval.  The only way this would happen would be if you decided to add more pieces to what was originally agreed upon in the contract.  If this happens, you will be given a new contract with updated agreements and totals to sign.  A higher total cost will never come as a surprise!  If you request student booklets, the printing and shipping costs will not be included in your quote and will be an additional cost in the end.

CAN WE INCLUDE OUR LOGO WITH THE CURRICULUM?

You are welcome to add a cover page to the .pdf file that is sent to you.  Feel free to put your logo and group information on it to make it look like your own.  You do not need to send your logo to incorporate with the curriculum unless it would help the writer visualize.  We do enjoy seeing what creative logos develop for student Bible studies so if you want to send it, we would love to see it!

DO YOU DEVELOP LOGOS TO GO WITH CURRICULUM?

If you like stick figures, yes.  Otherwise, you should utilize the many, talented graphic artists around.  As this business and ministry grows, the hope is to add a graphics person so that this is an option, but at this time really good stick animals and people is all we have to offer…

WHAT CAN WE DO WITH THE CURRICULUM AFTER WE ARE DONE WITH IT?

The curriculum created for you is yours to keep and reuse under the ownership of the church or organization for which it was originally intended.  The content is copyrighted by Kaleidoscope Curriculum and may not be re-sold or duplicated for an outside church or organization to use without prior written approval of Kaleidoscope Curriculum.

WHEN DO WE PAY FOR OUR CURRICULUM?

Once you receive your free Kaleido-Quote and decide that custom curriculum is what you want, we will enter Phase I, the Outline Phase (see FAQ on working process).  Once the outline is established, that, along with a contract will be signed and 50% of your total will be due.  Once the half-way point in writing is reached and you approve of it, the remaining 50% of the balance will be due.

WHAT METHODS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?

Checks are the only accepted form of payment and can be made out to Kaleidoscope Curriculum.

WHAT ABOUT OUR TAX-EXEMPT STATUS?

Please send a copy of your tax-exempt form along with your signed contract to avoid being charged tax.

ARE THERE REFUNDS?

No refunds.  This curriculum is custom-made, just for you.  A lot of time is put into crafting a set of Bible studies that are tailored to your students, your event schedule, your theme and desired passage.  If for some reason your event gets cancelled or changed, you can use the curriculum at another time within your church or organization, but you are still responsible for fulfilling your contract and paying the full amount.  You may not sell or duplicate the material for another church or organization.

DOES KALEIDOSCOPE CURRICULUM WRITE MATERIALS FOR CHILDREN OR ADULTS?

No.  Having a focus on Bible studies aimed only at one age group (7-12th grade) allows us to do better at what we do.  Students is where our experience is, so that is what we will stick to.
